The need for surgery for second-degree adenoids and third-degree tonsils should be judged on the basis of the condition. When the following indications are met, surgery should be performed. 1. Indications for tonsil surgery: (1) recurrent acute tonsillitis or other infections caused by tonsillitis. (2) Excessive hypertrophy of tonsils, which affects normal life, such as eating, breathing and so on. (3) Those with lymph node enlargement of unknown cause. (4) When diphtheria carriers are ineffective in non-surgical treatment, the tonsils can be removed and treatment and observation can be continued. (5) Unexplained low-grade fever and other tonsil-related diseases, such as tumors. 2. Indications for adenoid surgery: (1) Open-mouth breathing, snoring or occlusive nasal sound caused by adenoid hypertrophy; causing secretory otitis media with hearing loss; causing suppurative otitis media with pus in the ears; accompanied by inflammation of nasal cavity and sinuses. (2) Adenoid face has been formed, such as high arch of hard palate and irregular teeth. If there is no indication for surgery, it should be observed for the time being. If any discomfort or change in condition occurs, it should be consulted in time.
