Gui Fu Di Huang Wan is good at treating deficiency of kidney yang (lack of yang qi in the kidneys). Recurrent mouth ulcers are mostly characterized by heat (including actual heat and deficiency heat), so Gui Fu Di Huang Wan is not generally used as a treatment for recurrent mouth ulcers.

It is often used in the treatment of cold and soreness of the waist and knees, edema, dysuria, phlegm (a pathological product of impaired water metabolism), cough and asthma. It is contraindicated in pregnant women. It is forbidden for those who have fire in yin deficiency and yang bloom.
