The main ingredients of Ephedra and Shengma Tang are Ephedra, Shengma, Scutellaria baicalensis, Weiwei, Paeonia lactiflora, Asparagus, Angelica sinensis, Zhi Mu, Gui Zhi, Poria, Glycyrrhiza, Gypsum, Atractylodes macrocephala, and Dry Ginger. It is effective in clearing the upper and warming the lower part of the body, supporting correctness and benefiting yin, harmonizing Ying and Wei (making the body’s internal and external qi smooth, each in its own way), and developing the depressed yang. This tonic is mainly used for the treatment of typhoid fever (a disease in which fever is caused by feeling cold) after a large downward movement, with syncope of the hands and feet (unconsciousness, accompanied by cold extremities, even to the elbows and above the knees), unfavorable laryngeal and pharyngeal conditions, salivation of pus and blood, more than one discharge, and a sunken and delayed inches pulse with a non-arrival of the pulse at the lower part of the body, and so on.
