How soon you can color your hair after surgery depends largely on the patient’s individual recovery. If the surgical wound is completely healed, the hair can be colored.
For head surgery, the incision on the patient’s head usually needs to be completely healed before hair coloring can be considered. However, patients who undergo head surgery usually need to shave their hair completely, so the hair will not grow back until about a month after the surgery. If the patient’s incisions are healing well, they can have their hair colored.
If the wound has not healed after surgery, hair coloring is not recommended. Since the dyes used for hair coloring are chemicals, they can easily lead to infection at the surgical site, skin inflammation, etc. and slow down wound healing to some extent. Generally, wait until the patient’s incision is well healed, diet is back to normal, and urine and urination are clear. In this case, it is more appropriate to dye hair 2 to 3 weeks after surgery.
For abdominal surgery, if the patient has incision infection, fatty liquefaction and gastrointestinal fistula, the patient is not suitable for hair coloring.
Therefore, patients should choose whether to dye their hair or not under the guidance and advice of the doctor.
