The causative agent of the mystery disease in Wuhan has been identified as a novel coronavirus. Coronaviruses are a large group of viruses known to cause diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). It has been shown that the Wuhan novel coronavirus is similar to the SARS coronavirus in terms of receptor binding pathway. However, at the same time, the genome sequence of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) is also very different from that of SARS-CoV and can be considered as a novel human infectious type B coronavirus. Therefore, although the novel coronavirus has structural similarities with SARS virus, it is not a SARS virus, nor is it a MERS virus.
