How does splenectomy work?

Generally, splenectomy is performed either by laparoscopic resection or open surgery. Generally speaking, splenectomy is usually performed by minimally invasive surgery, i.e. laparoscopic splenectomy, in which the operation hole is firstly created by poking the card, followed by freeing the peripheral ligaments from the bottom to the top, and resecting the spleen after dealing with the splenic pedicle, and finally removing the spleen through the operation hole. In addition, if the conditions do not permit or if it is difficult to operate laparoscopically, open surgery is required. The procedure is similar to that of laparoscopic surgery, in which the peripheral ligaments and blood-supplying arteries are freed, and the spleen is removed and the abdominal cavity is closed after making sure that there are no other symptoms such as bleeding. The specific type of surgery needs to be chosen under the guidance of the surgeon according to the patient’s condition and hospital conditions.
