How to get earwax out of a child’s ear

Children with earwax can be removed by direct method, external ear canal flushing method, suction method and so on.

1. Direct removal: for movable earwax that does not block the external ear canal and is dry, you can use ear picking tools or cotton swabs to remove the child’s earwax directly.

2. External ear canal flushing method: when the child’s earwax is dry and hard and difficult to take out, it is necessary to drop 5% sodium bicarbonate solution into the ear to soften the earwax, and then use saline to flush the external ear canal to remove the earwax. This method is not suitable for secondary infections of the skin of the external ear canal. The use of medication should be directed by a medical professional.

3. Suction method: For earwax that is waterlogged, infected or softened with medication, the pus from the earwax can be removed by suction method.

When children have excessive and hard earwax, it is recommended to clean it with the help of a healthcare professional to avoid damage to children’s ears caused by self-treatment.
