Liver regulation can be achieved by taking Chinese medicine, and there is no reliable basis for drinking tea to regulate the liver. Liver yin deficiency can be treated with Consistent Decoction; Liver qi stagnation can be treated with Chai Hu Hepatophoresis; Liver and kidney yin deficiency can be treated with Six-flavored Digoxigenin Pill.
1. Deficiency of Liver-Yin: It is mostly caused by deficiency of Yin and Blood, which cannot nourish the Liver veins. Clinically, it is common to see chest and hypochondriac pain, acid swallowing (swallowing of acid from the stomach upward to the oropharynx), bitter vomiting, dryness of the throat and mouth, a red tongue with little fluids, and a fine pulse (the pulse becomes narrower and finer, and its rate is accelerated).
Consistent decoction can be taken to nourish yin and dredge the liver.
2. Liver qi stagnation: It is mostly due to emotional disorders (emotional unhappiness), wood loss, resulting in stagnation of liver qi. Clinical symptoms include pain in the ribs and abdomen, chest tightness, depression or irritability, belching (hiccups), distension of the epigastrium and abdomen, and a stringy pulse.
It can be treated with Chai Hu Shuo Liver Essence, which relieves the liver, relieves depression, and relieves pain by regulating the body’s qi (relieving pain by regulating the body’s qi).
3. Yin deficiency of the liver and kidney: mostly due to deficiency of Yin essence of the kidney.
Clinically, it is common to see soreness and weakness of the waist and knees, dizziness, blurred vision, tinnitus and deafness, night sweating (abnormal sweating after going to sleep and stopping sweating after waking up), spermatorrhea, thirst, and bone vaporization and hot flashes (a burst of heat, feeling that the heat is penetrating from the inside of the bone to the outside), and heat in the hands, feet and heart, tongue, and so on.
As well as heat in the heart of the hands and feet, dry tongue and sore throat, shaky teeth, pain in the heels, and children with an incompatible fontanel, red tongue with little moss, and a sunken, fine pulse. It can be treated with Liu Wei Di Huang Wan to fill in the essence and nourish the yin and tonify the kidney.
If medication is needed, it should be treated by a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, and should not be used on its own to avoid adverse consequences.
