Whether the chin recession can slowly recover on its own needs to be considered in the context of age, if it is a young child, it can recover on its own through correction, if it is an adult, most of them need surgery and cannot recover on their own. Chin recession, clinically known as small jaw deformity, is mainly manifested as a short jaw, lateral shape like a bird’s beak. Congenital hypoplasia of the mandible and trauma and infection destroy the growth center of the mandibular condyle as its common cause. The symptoms are more obvious when the onset of the disease occurs before the growth period. If the patient is in the growth phase, functional orthopedic treatment can be performed at a younger age to promote the development of the mandible, which can often recover on its own. If the patient is already an adult and his or her bones have stopped growing, he or she usually cannot recover on his or her own. Adult patients may undergo orthodontic treatment followed by orthognathic surgery to push the jaw forward, or they may undergo chin augmentation plastic treatment. More severe cases need to be considered for jaw surgery treatment.
