Precautions after abortion

  Abortion is a remedy of last resort after the failure of contraception. Generally speaking, one or two abortions occasionally do not have any adverse effects on women’s health, especially early pregnancies, which can be quickly restored to health after abortion by negative pressure suction. Although abortion is a minor surgery, but not under direct vision, suction and scraping of the uterus and other operations can only be experienced by the feeling of the hand, and sometimes some complications or sequelae may occur due to careless operation, such as incomplete suction, uterine bleeding, uterine inflammation, uterine perforation, endometriosis, infertility, etc. Therefore, abortion should not be done more often, otherwise it will have adverse effects on health.  It is often said that “in October, a baby is born” and “the melon is ripe”. Normal delivery is after the fetus is full term, due to the change of hormones in the mother’s body, causing the uterus to contract and deliver the fetus and placenta. This is a natural phenomenon of the human body, and the body has sufficient time to adapt and prepare for it. Abortion, on the other hand, is the artificial use of surgical instruments to extract the embryonic tissue and fetus from the uterine cavity during the 12th week of pregnancy to terminate the pregnancy. Some people refer to abortion as a “mini-moon session”. Since abortion is an artificial interruption of a normal pregnancy, the body does not have a slow and gradual adaptation process, so it has certain effects on human health.  When a pregnant woman has an abortion, the high level of mental tension and the severe pain caused by the suction tube to attract the uterine cavity make the sympathetic nerve excitability increase, adrenaline secretion increases, the metabolic rate of the body increases, and energy consumption increases. At the same time, the endometrium of the mother’s uterus is inevitably damaged during abortion, and if no attention is paid to strengthening self-care after the operation, it can lead to prolonged vaginal bleeding, lumbago and abdominal pain, menstrual disorders, amenorrhea, etc. Therefore, it is crucial to do a good job of self-care after abortion to promote a smooth recovery of the body and reproductive organs.  First, pay attention to rest and strengthen nutrition. After the abortion, you should rest in bed for 2~3 days, then you can get out of bed and gradually increase the activity time. Do not engage in heavy physical labor and avoid contact with cold water within half a month after the abortion. It takes about one month for the uterus to recover after abortion. Therefore, we should pay attention to increasing nutrition and consume sufficient amount of protein to enhance the body’s resistance to diseases and promote the early repair of injured organs. After the abortion, you should eat more fish, meat, eggs, bean products protein-rich food and fresh vegetables rich in vitamins to speed up the recovery of the body.  Second, keep the vulva clean and sanitary, and prohibit intercourse. After the abortion, the mouth of the uterus has not yet closed, the endometrium also has a repair process, during this period of time, we should pay special attention to keep the vulva clean and hygienic, half a month after the operation do not take a tub bath, so as to avoid unclean water into the vagina, resulting in bacterial infestation, causing infection. Do not have intercourse within one month after the abortion.  Observe the bleeding situation to prevent aggravation of the condition. If you have vaginal bleeding for more than a week after the abortion, as well as symptoms such as lower abdominal pain, fever, cloudy and smelly leucorrhea, you should go to the hospital for review and treatment in time.  Fourth, pay attention to contraception to avoid re-pregnancy. After abortion, the ovaries and uterus gradually recover, and the ovaries ovulate on schedule. If you do not insist on good contraception, you will soon get pregnant again. Some women get pregnant again the same month they have an abortion, which has a greater impact on their bodies. Therefore, you should choose reliable contraceptive measures, and abortion should only be used as a remedial procedure as a last resort after contraceptive failure, and should not be used as a contraceptive birth control measure to protect women’s physical and mental health.
