Qing-yang not rising (light and clear yang qi cannot rise upwards) is usually caused by a deficiency of yang in the spleen and stomach, and should not be taken with Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan. Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan is composed of Zhi Mu, which nourishes yin and moistens dryness (nourishes yin essence and removes heat), Huang Bai, which diarrhees fire and subdues heat, Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata, which tonifies blood and nourishes yin, and Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum, which tonifies the kidney. It is mainly used for treating yin deficiency and exuberant fire syndrome, which is characterized by low fever in the afternoon, dry mouth and throat, night sweating, heat in the hands, feet and heart, tinnitus and spermatorrhea. This product should be used with caution for those who have weak spleen and stomach and do not think of food. Those who do not ascend clear yang are mostly due to yang deficiency in the spleen and stomach, but the main effect of Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan is to nourish yin and reduce fire, and it cannot solve the symptoms of unclear yang, thus it should not be taken.
