A hard, plate-like uterus suggests a possible uterine pathology. A normal uterus is spherical, relatively soft in texture and has good mobility. If the uterus is diseased, the uterus may develop plate-like symptoms, such as adenomyosis, pelvic endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, pelvic tuberculosis, and severe ovarian tumors invading the uterus, or malignant changes in the uterus, all of which can present with a hard plate-like uterus. Patients usually palpate the uterus by internal examination and find enlarged shape, poor mobility, and bad motility, while there may be compression of the surrounding tissues. Ultrasound examination may reveal exudation of the surrounding tissues with hyperplasia, and the lesions of the uterus can usually be identified by ultrasound examination.
