What causes a rectum to prolapse from the anus?

For example, constipation, diarrhoea, prostate enlargement, chronic cough, difficulty in urination and multiple deliveries often result in increased abdominal pressure, pushing the rectum downwards and prolapsing. Internal haemorrhoids and rectal polyps often prolapse, pulling down on the rectal mucosa and causing prolapse of the rectal mucosa. Inadequate development of pelvic support tissues in children, and flaccid and weak pelvic floor muscles and rectal support tissues in older people, which do not provide adequate support for the rectum, can also lead to prolapse of the rectum from the anus.
