What is the cause of anal prolapse in a child?

As the pelvic support tissues in children are not well developed, they cannot assume adequate support for the rectum, or the sacral curvature has not yet grown, the rectum becomes vertical and is more mobile; and because of prolonged dysentery and diarrhoea, the abdominal pressure continues to increase, so that prolapse is likely to occur, usually mostly as prolapse of the rectal mucosa.
