The main cause of otitis externa is bacterial infection can also be caused by viral and fungal infections. 3. Bacteria causing diffuse otitis externa are mainly Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus hemolyticus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Proteus mirabilis. Some diffuse otitis externa can be caused by viral and fungal infections.
