Pneumoconiosis results from the inhalation of large amounts of industrial dust in a long-term work environment, where the dust is deposited in the lungs, causing varying degrees of inflammation and fibrotic changes. Pneumoconiosis can be divided into three stages, in which stage I double-lung CT features, confined to the extent of stage I, dense shadows in the lungs, distributed within 2 lobes of the lungs. There can be small rounded shadows with focal areas, irregular shadows, and relatively large shadows that can appear as speckled shadows at the pleura. The lung hilar shadow is widened, the lung texture is thickened, and some patients may have emphysema and increased lung lobe translucency.
