Itchy and watery ears are most often seen in otitis externa. Otitis externa is mostly related to repeated ear digging and allergies, which destroy the skin barrier of the external ear canal and cause exudation of fluid. On examination, the external ear canal is seen to be congested and swollen, and there may be watery secretions, and in case of concurrent infection, there may be purulent secretions in the external ear canal. Treatment requires antibiotic therapy, such as cefprozil orally; anti-allergy drug application, such as levocetirizine orally; and local cleaning, with 3% hydrogen peroxide to clean the external ear canal; and levofloxacin ear drops to prevent infection. After comprehensive treatment, otitis externa will be effectively controlled, and the itch and running water will be controlled. Therefore, for itchy and also watery external ear canal, comprehensive treatment is needed to achieve satisfactory results.
