It takes about three months for hepatic encephalopathy to progress from stage 2 to stage 4, depending on how early the patient is treated. Under normal circumstances, it takes about three months for a patient with hepatic encephalopathy to develop from stage 2 to stage 4. If the patient discovers the condition earlier and is treated in time, the condition will develop at a slower rate when it can be controlled. However, if the condition is not detected in time, the rate of progression will be relatively fast in the absence of timely treatment. Hepatic encephalopathy is a mental abnormality syndrome associated with central nervous system dysfunction caused by severe acute or chronic liver disease, with metabolic disorders as the pathophysiologic basis. Hepatic encephalopathy is categorized into grades 0 to 4 according to the progress of the disease as well as clinical symptoms and signs. Patients with Grade 2 hepatic encephalopathy usually have clinical symptoms such as lethargy, apathy, mild disorientation, mild personality changes, behavioral disorders, slurred speech, and abnormal numeracy. It is recommended that when patients have the above symptoms of hepatic encephalopathy grade 2, they should go to the hospital in time for treatment under the doctor’s guidance to control the condition and avoid too rapid progression to grade 4.
