What causes small blisters on the eyelids?

Clusters of small blisters on the eyelids are often seen in viral blepharitis, usually due to herpes simplex or herpes zoster virus infection. Clinical symptoms are usually characterized by the early appearance of papules on the skin of the eyelids, which soon become translucent blisters with a red halo around them. Eyelid edema can be seen on examination, and there are obvious symptoms of eye irritation, such as photophobia, tearing, eye stinging, burning sensation and so on. The blisters on the eyelids break easily and ooze a yellow viscous fluid. In the case of herpes zoster virus infection, it can be accompanied by generalized prodromal symptoms before the onset of the disease, such as general malaise, fever, etc., followed by severe neuralgia in the lesion area. In this case, it is recommended to firstly keep the eye area clean, in addition to giving antiviral symptomatic treatment.
