Half-summer, thick-park soup is a formula from “The Essentials of the Golden Chamber”, which consists of one liter of half-summer, three taels of thick-park, four taels of poria, five taels of ginger, and two taels of Su Ye, the dosage here being the ancient dosage to be taken orally by decoction with water. Hanxia Houpu Tang has the effects of moving qi and dispersing lumps (smoothing the body’s qi and dissolving lumps), and lowering rebelliousness and resolving phlegm (correcting retrograde qi and clearing phlegm from the body). Hanxia Houpu Tang is mainly used to treat prune nucleus qi (similar to pharyngeal allodynia), which is characterized by obstruction in the pharynx, inability to vomit or swallow, fullness in the chest and ribs, coughing or vomiting, white or slippery tongue coating, and slippery or stringy pulse. However, it should not be used if the patient has solid fire in the body, or phlegm and stagnant fire, with symptoms such as dry mouth and sores, bitter mouth and dry throat. The adverse effects of this formula are not known. This formula should be used by professional Chinese medicine practitioners after diagnosis, and should not be decocted blindly by oneself to avoid adverse reactions.
