Management of acute phase of trauma

For trauma management, generally speaking, many experts will mention RICE, and some experts add Protection to RICE to make RICE become PRICE. RICE is general first aid is not only limited to the sense of sports injury first aid, but its main purpose is to reduce internal bleeding and redness, swelling, and pain in the body. Rest (Rest), ice (Icing), compression (Compression), and elevation (Elevation) are the four principles of dealing with acute sports injuries. R – that is, Rest, the meaning of quiet. The meaning in first aid is not to move the injured person’s injured fork part at will, and not to apply acupressure immediately. The injured person should be allowed to be quiet and rest. The main purpose of rest is to reduce the pain, bleeding or swelling caused by continued activity, and to prevent the injury from deteriorating. I─Ice, or ice, is applied to the affected area. Ice can be applied to the affected area with a quick freeze or ice, or a cold pack, and hot packs are strictly forbidden to prevent swelling and continued bleeding of the microvasculature. In addition, it also has the effect of pain and relaxation. C─i.e. Compression, compression and fixation. To prevent microvascular bleeding or fracture displacement, elastic bandage or adhesive tape can be used to fix the affected part. E─Elevation, meaning elevation. Elevating the injured part to a position higher than the heart can prevent bleeding and redness of the affected part. In case of joint ligament sprains or muscle strains or acute contusions while exercising, rest and stop exercising immediately, ice the injured area, apply an elastic bandage for compression, and try to elevate the affected area. In addition, some experts propose to use MICE, i.e., Move (movement) instead of Rest (rest). It is believed that if the muscles are not allowed to move, it will reduce blood flow and lead to muscle atrophy. However, if you stretch correctly, you will speed up recovery. The main point to avoid after an injury is “HARM”. H – heat (Heat). After a bruise or sprain, do not use heat, because in the first twenty-four to seventy-two hours (depending on the injury), the injury will appear red and swollen phenomenon, the flow of blood is not smooth, if premature application of heat, it will intensify the degree of bleeding, delaying the speed of healing. A─Alcohol, remind to avoid drinking alcohol after injury. This is because alcohol will accelerate blood circulation, the reason is the same as the hot compress, the blood in the injured person is in a stagnant state, if too much external blood rushes to, but can smoothly flow away but not much, so it will make the swelling worsen, resulting in greater pain. R-Running and other sports. This is because continued movement of the injured area can aggravate the injury. M─Massage (Massage), this will also cause the injury to worsen, especially in the 24 hours after the injury, more should not massage the affected area.
