Acne is acne vulgaris, a chronic inflammatory skin disease of the sebaceous glandular units of hair follicles. Acne on the cheeks can be treated with topical medications such as retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, and antibiotics, as well as oral medications such as antibiotics and isotretinoin.
1. Topical drugs:
(1) Retinoids: including retinoic acid cream and adapalene gel. Initial use will appear local irritation reaction, such as erythema, flaking, tightness and burning sensation, should be used in low concentration or a small range of light avoidance.
(2) Benzoyl peroxide: after topical application, it can slowly release new ecological oxygen and benzoic acid, which has the effect of killing Propionibacterium acnes, dissolving acne and astringent. It can be formulated into different concentrations of lotion, emulsion or gel. A few patients may have mild skin irritation, so it is recommended to start with a low concentration and a small range of trial.
(3) Antibiotics: topical preparations such as fusidic acid cream, erythromycin ointment, lincomycin and clindamycin and chloramphenicol.
2. Oral medications:
(1) Antibiotics: preferred tetracyclines such as doxycycline, minocycline, etc., and macrolides such as erythromycin, azithromycin, clarithromycin, etc., when they cannot be used.
(2) Isotretinoin: Isotretinoin is suitable for nodular cystic acne, acne with excessive seborrhea, acne that is not well treated by other methods, as well as violaceous acne and polymerized acne. This drug may cause dryness of the lips and mouth, dandruff, elevated blood lipids, and other teratogenic effects, men and women of childbearing age should be contraceptive while taking the drug, and should stop taking the drug for three months before becoming pregnant.
