Acute epiglottitis is a common critical condition in ENT that can be life-threatening and should be treated immediately in a hospital and is not recommended to be treated on one’s own. The management principle of acute epiglottitis is to control infection and keep the airway open. ①Control of infection: combined use of glucocorticosteroids (hydrocortisone or dexamethasone IV) and antibiotics (cephalosporins or amoxicillin); ②Keep the airway open: when the epiglottis is highly congested and edematous and cannot be relieved, or cyanosis and other symptoms should be carried out emergency tracheotomy, and the artificial airway should be established rapidly. Acute epiglottitis has a rapid onset and can lead to fatal respiratory obstruction. After the onset of the disease, the patient should be sent to the hospital by dialing the emergency number and treated as soon as possible.
