How long it takes to recover from a dislocated joint is highly dependent on the location of the dislocation, the severity of the injury, and the degree of functional exercises performed at a later stage, and usually takes about 1~3 months.
Dislocation can usually be handled by manipulative reset. Joint dislocation can cause damage to the joint capsule, periarticular ligaments and tendons, resulting in localized tearing. Local immobilization is required after repositioning under anesthesia, and healing of the torn tissue takes about 1 month.
After the tissue heals, functional exercises for the joint are started, starting with passive functional exercises and then active functional exercises, and it usually takes about 3 months after the injury for the soft tissues to fully recover.
In the case of frequent dislocations, a different treatment is needed. Although the recovery cycle is also around 1 month, minor violence may trigger another dislocation, mainly due to the laxity of the joint capsule and ligaments caused by habitual dislocations, and in severe cases, surgery is needed.
After the first dislocation, it is important to keep the affected area braked and avoid significant activity to avoid habitual dislocations.
