How long a person can live with plasma exchange is uncertain and is not significantly related to the treatment itself, but rather to the progression of the primary disease.
Plasma replacement is the process of separating whole blood into plasma and cellular components after it has been drawn out of the body, replacing the separated plasma with plasma substitutes such as fresh plasma, albumin solution, and equilibrium fluids, and then transfusing the plasma into the patient’s body to alleviate the pathologic damage.
1. In the case of poisoned patients, generally after plasma replacement, the patient can get curative effect and can survive for a long time.
2. However, in the case of other serious renal diseases, immune system diseases or hematologic diseases, plasma exchange for these diseases can only play a certain degree of maintenance.
If the primary disease is greatly improved with other treatments, then the patient can survive for a long time after plasma exchange, but if the primary disease is not actively controlled, even after plasma exchange, the survival will still be threatened.
Specific diagnosis and treatment should be carried out under the guidance of a physician.
