What happens when a herniated lumbar disc compresses the dural sac?

Compression of the dural sac after a lumbar disc herniation is a particularly common clinical manifestation, mainly because a lumbar disc herniation compresses the posterior longitudinal ligament and the dural sac posteriorly, and the compression of the posterior longitudinal ligament and the dural sac simultaneously leads to stimulation of the sinus nerve in the lumbar region, which causes lumbar pain symptoms. More than 90% of patients with lumbar disc herniation have symptoms of lumbar pain. Therefore, compression of the dural sac by a herniated lumbar disc is a particularly common clinicopathological manifestation, and correction of the compression should be the primary treatment.
