Recently, we have been receiving a lot of notifications of neonatal consultations, and the doctors in charge have responded that the babies “don’t eat” after birth. Due to preterm labor, intrauterine factors or other influences, the swallowing function of babies is not activated immediately after birth, or there is a delay in the phenomenon, which occurs in a high percentage of newborns. During the consultation, it was found that babies with swallowing problems had similar general descriptions of their conditions: their mouths moved less, they couldn’t suck the bottle, they were very slow and difficult to feed, they choked and coughed on their milk, and they had more sputum and saliva …… Specifically analyzed in terms of swallowing disorders, the difficulty in eliciting or weakening of the pharyngeal reflex and sucking emission is the most direct cause of swallowing disorders in newborns. Problems with any of the links necessary for swallowing, such as lip retraction, lip pursing, tongue elevation and retraction; airway closure; and laryngeal elevation, will affect the normal conduct of the swallowing sequence.
