Swelling of the hip joint capsule is due to joint edema caused by hip strain, trauma, inflammation, tuberculosis and other causes. Hip strain, such as strenuous exercise can cause hip joint capsule swelling, which can be reduced by rest. Swelling of the hip joint capsule indicates that lesions within the hip joint cause fluid to accumulate in the hip joint, causing swelling of the joint capsule. If there is no trauma, synovitis is usually considered, which is a sterile inflammatory disease that can cause swelling of the joint capsule, oozing, and fluid accumulation in the joint cavity. It can be relieved by rest, physical therapy, and if necessary, anti-inflammatory painkillers such as celecoxib as prescribed by the doctor. Swelling of the joint capsule can also occur in the case of hip joint pathology, such as septic arthritis, tuberculosis of the hip or ischemic necrosis of the femoral head, secondary to synovial hyperplasia and hypertrophy. Treatment needs to be tailored to the cause. Therefore, swelling of the hip joint capsule indicates a joint pathology and should be further examined and treated in a joint surgery department.
