You need to register for obstetrics outpatient service during normal hours and emergency obstetrics service during other hours. The definition of labor is regular contractions accompanied by shortening of the cervical canal and dilatation of the uterine mouth. Observation of contractions and dilatation of the uterine mouth can mostly identify labor and false labor. Pregnant women need to be admitted to the hospital after entering the active phase. If the patient is not sure whether labor is imminent, she can be kept in the ward for 1-2 hours for further evaluation. High-risk pregnancies, such as scarred uterus, hypertension and diabetes mellitus, as well as pregnant women with more remote residences, should have appropriate relaxation of admission indications. Each hospital has different criteria and habits for when to admit to the hospital for labor and delivery. A full-term primigravida with regular contractions and ≥3 cm dilatation of the uterus; a premature rupture of membranes or a transitional woman with regular contractions and ≥2 cm dilatation of the uterus may be admitted to the labor room for labor.
