Chronic low back pain and disability of the spine is the third leading cause of chronic disability, after heart disease and arthritis. Slipped vertebrae, fractures, osteoporosis, scoliosis, degenerative joint changes within the spine, spinal stenosis, and chronic rheumatic inflammation of the spine can all contribute to chronic low back pain. Some patients have low back pain because of pain after disc surgery. We call this Failed Back Surgery Syndrome (FBSS). Although the surgery was done very successfully, many patients still have low back or leg pain after surgery due to many uncertainties, and it often does not achieve the desired results after multiple surgeries and many medications and physical therapy treatments, which plagues many patients.
