How to treat anaplastic pituitary tumors

Non-functional pituitary adenoma belongs to the common type of pituitary adenoma, because of its non-functionality, it cannot be detected early in time, usually wait until the tumor is so big as to compress the optic nerve, causing visual impairment or tumor stroke before it is examined and found. The main treatments for non-functional pituitary adenomas are as follows: 1) Surgery, as long as there are no contraindications to surgery, the patients should undergo surgery. At present, more than 95% of pituitary tumor surgeries are transsphenoidal surgeries. After transsphenoidal surgeries, if there are residuals, adjuvant γ-knife treatment can be considered; 2. If the tumor recurs soon after surgery, it usually belongs to a kind of refractory pituitary adenoma, including extensive invasion into the pterygoid sinus and cavernous sinus on both sides, and so on, and may recur very soon after surgery. The current recommendation is to do chemotherapy with temozolomide for this kind of non-functional tumor.
