Does risperidone treat people with schizophrenia

Risperidone can treat people with schizophrenia.
Risperidone can be used to treat acute and chronic schizophrenia, as well as a variety of other psychiatric symptoms that are markedly positive (e.g., hallucinations, delusions, disorganized thinking, racing thoughts) or markedly negative (e.g., unresponsiveness, apathy, slowness of activity, and hypothetical speech).
Moreover, the drug may also reduce affective symptoms associated with schizophrenia (e.g., depression, anxiety, etc.); in patients for whom acute-phase risperidone therapy is effective, the drug may be continued in maintenance therapy for psychiatric symptoms.
The most common adverse drug reactions to risperidone are Parkinson’s syndrome, sedation, somnolence, headache, and sleep disturbances.
Patients with schizophrenia should not take the medication on their own, but should go to a medical professional for treatment and use the medication under the supervision of a physician.
