Can you clean your own earwax?

Earwax is self-cleaning. In general, earwax in adults is yellowish or off-white, flaky, and more frequent at the front of the external ear canal; this type of earwax can be cleaned up at home on your own. If it is a special form of earwax, such as cerumen, it is best to have it removed at the hospital. Cerumen is a clinical manifestation caused by abnormal exudation from the skin follicles of the external auditory canal. Cerumen is hard and dark brown in color. Never remove it at home by yourself, it will cause inflammation of the external auditory canal, and in serious cases, it will lead to damage of the tympanic membrane, causing perforation of the tympanic membrane, and then secondary to otitis media or mastoid cholesteatoma of the middle ear, which must be cleaned up in the hospital. If the cerumen is hard, it can be soaked in sesame oil for about 5-10 days, and after the cerumen is softened, it can be removed directly by suction or cerumen hook without pain.
