Bowel movement a few days after gastroenteroscopy

Gastroenteroscopy is one of the more accurate tests for detecting mucosal lesions in the gastrointestinal tract. Bowel movements can return to normal 1 to 2 days after a gastroenteroscopy. Before the gastroenteroscopy, you need to drink a laxative to clear out the contents of the intestines. As a result, there is usually no bowel movement for 1~2 days after the examination, and the bowel movement will return to its previous state only after resuming diet. Gastroenteroscopy is a means of examining the gastrointestinal tract and has no significant effect on bowel habits, regularity, or stool characteristics. If you resume eating and drinking after the examination, you will be able to have normal bowel movements after 1 to 2 days. However, if treatment is performed under gastroenteroscopy, it may take 2~3 days before you can eat, and bowel movements may also be significantly delayed if you eat a less crumbly diet or eat less. Note that fasting is required on the day of the test. You may eat after the examination, but try to eat easily digestible food. If a biopsy procedure is performed, the patient should not do strenuous activities for 3 days, and needs to fast, and can eat non-caloric food on the next day. If after the examination, the patient has persistent abdominal pain and other symptoms, it is recommended to consult a doctor in a timely manner, under the guidance of the doctor to improve the relevant examination, to clarify the cause of the disease, symptomatic treatment.
