Swimming is not usually associated with HIV infection.
AIDS is caused by infection with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), which is found in the blood, semen, vaginal secretions, breast milk, pleural fluid, and ascites of infected persons. The main routes of HIV transmission are sexual contact, mother-to-child transmission, and blood transmission (sharing syringes with AIDS patients, interventional medical practices).
Healthy people have intact skin and mucous membranes with normal barrier function against pathogens. Moreover, the human immunodeficiency virus dies soon after leaving the body and does not survive in pool water. Therefore, healthy people can’t get HIV from swimming.
Although swimming is not infected with AIDS, swimming may be infected with athlete’s foot, acute conjunctivitis and other diseases. It is advisable to go to a regular swimming pool and wash your skin after swimming.
