General knowledge about abortion

  I. Understanding abortion
Abortion is covered by health insurance when the fetus is determined to be defective and unlikely to survive, or when the pregnant woman is physically unfit for pregnancy – for medical reasons; on the other hand, if the pregnant woman does not wish to have the fetus and does not meet the medical reasons, she must pay for it herself. The abortion mentioned above is an operation to expel the fetus from the mother’s body within 3 months of pregnancy, but if the pregnancy is more than 3 months old, the baby must be induced to leave the mother’s body.
5 reasons why abortion is needed
1, pregnant mothers or their spouses have eugenic hereditary, infectious or mental diseases, resulting in unhealthy fetuses so abortion is performed. Examples of chromosomal abnormalities are: Down syndrome, which is caused by one more chromosome of the 21st pair.
  2. The pregnant mother or her spouse’s blood relatives within the fourth degree of consanguinity have eugenic hereditary diseases.
3.Fetal malformation, fetal death, fetal chromosomal abnormalities and other abnormal pregnancies.
4.There are medical reasons to conclude that pregnancy or childbirth will lead to life-threatening or hazardous physical or mental health.
  5. Those whose pregnancy or delivery will affect their mental health or family life, which is more subjective and therefore quite controversial.
  III. Understanding spontaneous abortion
Up to 50% of spontaneous abortions are caused by unknown reasons. Dr. Peng Fuxiang stressed that the beauty of the human body is that when the mother finds that the fetus is not suitable for survival, based on the concept of eugenics, the fetus will naturally be eliminated. In addition, a small number of spontaneous miscarriages are caused by physical factors of the pregnant woman, such as autoimmune system problems, uterine malformations, etc. Finally, there are very few spontaneous miscarriages caused by infection, pregnant women also need to be careful.
Top 10 reasons for spontaneous miscarriage
  1. The embryo itself is not developed properly.
  2. Defective placenta and poor development.
3, chromosomal or genetic defects, resulting in unhealthy fertilized eggs.
4.Overwork or psychological stress in early pregnancy.
5.Increasing age increases the rate of miscarriage. The poor quality of eggs in advanced maternal age can affect the health of the embryo and lead to miscarriage.
Chronic illnesses that are not treated, such as tuberculosis or cancer, infections with special diseases, such as syphilis and phialophilis.
  6. Abnormal endocrine function, e.g. luteinizing hormone deficiency, thyroid disease, diabetes mellitus.
7, abnormal genital structure, such as: cervical atresia or uterine malformation.
8, Immune abnormalities, because the fertilized egg is composed of sperm and egg, half of the components are foreign and not from the mother itself, resulting in the body producing antibodies that reject the fertilized egg and cannot be stored in the uterus. Autoimmune system, such as lupus erythematosus, can easily cause this miscarriage.
  9. Habitual miscarriage. A woman who has had more than three consecutive spontaneous miscarriages is defined as habitual miscarriage.
  V. How to prevent and treat spontaneous abortion?
The development of spontaneous miscarriage is clinically divided into seven types: aura miscarriage, inevitable miscarriage, incomplete miscarriage, complete miscarriage, indolent miscarriage (overdue miscarriage), habitual miscarriage, and infectious miscarriage.
  1. Pre-eclampsia miscarriage: It occurs below 20 weeks of pregnancy and has the highest chance of occurrence. About 1/4 of pregnant mothers are prone to bleeding symptoms in the early stages of pregnancy because the placenta is not stable enough. At this time, there are precursors of miscarriage, but the embryo is still in its normal position and is not aborted, but because there is no special treatment for pre-eclampsia miscarriage, if you can recuperate well, you have a good chance to keep the fetus after stabilization.
  2. Urgent miscarriage (coercive miscarriage): It occurs at less than 20 weeks of pregnancy when the embryo sac slips down to the cervix, the water breaks, there is a lot of bleeding with blood clots, and there are continuous painful contractions. The occurrence of this miscarriage means that the fetus is about to be aborted and it is relatively impossible to keep it.
3.Incomplete miscarriage: It occurs when the pregnancy is less than 20 weeks, there is a fact of miscarriage and some of the pregnancy tissues are expelled from the body, but there are still some residues in the uterus that have not been expelled, so it must be treated as soon as possible, otherwise the placenta, amniotic membrane and embryo will be completely expelled from the uterus and it will become a complete miscarriage.
4.Expired abortion: It occurs when the embryo has stopped developing for more than four weeks or the embryo cannot be formed and the embryo remains in the uterus, but the pregnant woman does not have any abnormal symptoms; because the embryo should be aborted but is not aborted (it still stays for a period of time), so it is called expired abortion.
5.Septic abortion: This type of abortion is rare nowadays because the medical system in Taiwan is complete and the incidence is small.
Most of them are caused by the use of unclean or incomplete sterilized instruments during abortion, and a few are complications of natural abortion, which can be affected by hygiene habits or the physical condition of the pregnant mother, such as diabetes.
To prevent spontaneous abortion, Dr. Pang recommends that pregnant women should get plenty of rest and hydration. There are no medications that can really stabilize the uterus, so there is no real abortion, but even so, moms-to-be can still take natural progesterone orally or through injections to prevent miscarriage. It is important to note that progesterone is not very helpful for urgent miscarriages and other conditions with high fetal mortality, and progesterone, which is labeled as natural, still has certain side effects and should never be purchased and taken by the pharmacy.
  Sixth, walk through miscarriage
Most pregnant mothers are able to understand that the fetus is not suitable for further growth and therefore cannot be born successfully. On the other hand, infertility and habitual miscarriage are more unacceptable and require more psychological counseling and support.
