Does the skin recover after monkeypox is cured

The skin of monkeypox patients may gradually recover after cure. Monkeypox refers to a human-animal infectious disease caused by the monkeypox virus, with typical clinical manifestations of rash, fever, muscle pain, and fatigue. The rash caused by monkeypox can last for 2 to 4 weeks, and is mainly divided into a rash and a crusting phase. The exanthematous phase usually passes through the stages of macules, papules, herpes and pustules. The scabbing stage refers to the drying and crusting phenomenon that begins a few days after the formation of herpes or pustules. After the scabs fall off, scarring is usually left, and the scarring disappears and the skin recovers in about half of the patients after 5 years. Monkeypox patients can produce immune antibodies in the body after cure, usually will not recur, and most patients have a good prognosis. After the monkeypox is cured, the patient should follow the doctor’s instructions for regular checkups. In daily life, the patient should keep the skin clean and hygienic, and protect the skin at the scabbed area to avoid re-injury.
