Tooth swelling is mainly caused by periodontal diseases, tooth defects or periapical diseases, which can’t be cured by only taking herbal medicines; it is recommended to consult a doctor for symptomatic treatment.
1. Periodontal disease is poor oral hygiene, resulting in the generation of a large amount of tartar or calculus to stimulate the periodontal tissues (e.g., gums) repeated inflammation and swelling, accompanied by bleeding gums or bad taste in the mouth of the symptom; periodontal treatment (e.g., scaling) must be carried out to completely remove the irritant, in order to quickly reduce the swelling.
2. Dental defects such as dental caries or wedge-shaped defects will lead to the loss of hard tissues in the dentin, so that the nerve is unprotected and sensitive to external stimuli, which in turn produces the symptoms of acidity and swelling; we must carry out restoration of dental defects (e.g., fillings) in order to effectively eliminate the feeling of acidity and swelling.
3. In case of apical periodontitis, the nerve will become inflamed and necrotic, and the spread of inflammation will lead to the infection and inflammation of the tissues at the root tip of the tooth, which will cause the gums at the root tip to become swollen and overflow with pus; the treatment is to remove the infected and necrotic pulpal tissues and inflammatory substances inside the root canal through root canal treatment, in order to effectively reduce the swelling.
