Sinusitis in children, a more common disease in childhood, is a purulent inflammation of the mucous membrane of the sinuses. Acute sinusitis is caused by a bacterial infection secondary to a cold. Once an acute attack of sinusitis occurs, it needs to be treated with sensitive, adequate antibiotics and other medications as soon as possible.
When a child’s cold lasts for more than 1 week, and the pus nasal discharge does not decrease or even increases, as well as the general and local symptoms worsen, the combination of acute purulent sinusitis should be considered. Since children’s bodies are not well developed and their resistance is poor, the possibility of peripheral organs and systemic complications is higher, especially in young children, which needs to be taken seriously. Since chronic sinusitis is difficult to cure completely, aim to cure it completely in the acute phase of sinusitis attack. In children with acute sinusitis, systemic application of adequate and sensitive antibiotics and additional anti-allergy medication is required if there are allergies. Nasal cavity is sprayed with physiological seawater nasal spray to cleanse nasal secretions; for children over 3 years old, local application of glucocorticoids and nasal mucosal constrictors. If there are comorbidities, treatment should be carried out at the same time. In chronic sinusitis, systemic antibiotics are taken, mainly orally, and the course of treatment should be sufficient. At the same time, local application of glucocorticoids in the nasal cavity is continued for two weeks after the symptoms disappear. For severe nasal congestion, use nasal mucosal constrictors, not for more than five consecutive days. If it is caused by adenoid hypertrophy, give adenoidectomy surgery to treat it.
In case of acute sinusitis attack in children, apply sensitive antibiotic treatment promptly, as soon as possible and in sufficient amount to cure completely in the acute stage. However, complete cure does not mean eradication. The usual timely treatment and correction of various pathogenic factors that can cause sinusitis, strengthening nutrition and exercise, and preventing colds can prevent the re-occurrence of sinusitis.
