When can babies eat oil and salt

Babies can usually eat moderate amounts of oil and salt after one year of age. If oil and salt are eaten before one year of age, it may increase the burden on the kidneys. If oil and salt are consumed too late, iodine deficiency may occur. Because babies are relatively young and their body organs are not fully developed, if they eat oil and salt too early it may burden the kidneys, damage the kidneys, cause sodium and water retention in the body and lead to edema and other manifestations. If the baby eats salt too late, iodine deficiency may occur. Iodine is used by the body to synthesize the thyroid gland, which can help promote baby’s height growth and brain development. If salt is consumed too late, it may lead to insufficient intake of iodine, resulting in delayed height and brain development of the baby. In order that the growth and development of babies will not be affected, it is recommended that babies consume oil and salt after one year of age, and parents must pay close attention to the changes in their babies’ diets.
