When is the best time to operate for strabismus?

The timing of strabismus surgery is a relatively complex issue because the timing of surgery is not exactly the same for different types of strabismus, different severity of strabismus, and different ages of onset. In the case of congenital internal strabismus, early surgery is recommended and can be performed when the child is 1.5 to 2 years old. In the case of exotropia, surgery is usually not necessary when the degree is very small in the early stage, such as exotropia or intermittent strabismus, but can be considered when the child is 5-6 years old and there is an obvious impairment of stereo visual function in both eyes. In the case of vertical strabismus, early surgery is recommended. Therefore, if there is strabismus in the eye, it is important to go to the hospital for relevant examination as early as possible, and only then can the timing of surgery be clarified.
