Nasal swabs and pharyngeal swabs have the same collection swabs, only the sampling routes are different.
The same is to take the deep throat secretion, nasal swab is through the nasal cavity into the nasopharynx to take secretions, while the pharyngeal swab is through the oral cavity into the pharynx to take secretions. In the selection of materials, the same are required to use polyester, nylon and other non-cotton, non-calcium alginate material swabs, and the handle is non-wooden material. The breaking point was located about 3 cm from the tip of the swab head and was easy to break.
Because the sampled person’s tolerance to nasal swabs is better, nasal swabs can stay at the sampling site for a slightly longer period of time relative to pharyngeal swabs, which makes it easier to obtain enough samples, and therefore the positive rate of nasal swabs is slightly higher than that of pharyngeal swabs.
When taking upper respiratory tract specimens, nasal swabs are generally preferred, and pharyngeal swabs can be used if nasal swabs cannot be collected. It is recommended to combine the actual situation with your own, listen to the arrangements of the sampling personnel, and choose the appropriate sampling method.
