When a severe gastric perforation is left untreated the contents of the stomach can enter the abdomen and cause peritonitis or even lead to infectious shock. If the condition is mild it may also heal gradually, but the chances are very small.
1. Peritonitis: gastric perforation will cause the stomach contents to enter the abdomen, which will cause peritonitis symptoms, and the patient will have coma, fever, respiratory difficulties and other manifestations.
2. Infectious shock: Infectious shock is the main cause of death in patients with gastric perforation. Untreated gastric perforation can lead to a large number of bacterial growth in the abdomen, thus causing infectious shock.
However, if the condition of mild gastric perforation is not treated after the onset of the disease, the greater omentum may gradually wrap around the perforated site, and the perforated site of the stomach may gradually heal, but the chances of this are very small.
Symptoms of gastric perforation mainly include: sudden onset of severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, even fever, shock symptoms, physical examination reveals abdominal wall pressure, rebound pain, muscle tension and other peritonitis symptoms, or even manifested as a plate-like abdomen, hepatic turbid zone shrinkage or disappearance of sudden aggravation of abdominal pain and so on.
Clinical appearance of the above symptoms, need to consider the possibility of gastric perforation, need to go to the hospital in a timely manner to improve the examination, a clear diagnosis, and then follow the doctor’s instructions to actively treat, so as to avoid delaying the condition, endangering the patient’s life.
