How to read a corneal topography

Corneal topography is a commonly used ophthalmologic examination method that allows the patient’s corneal morphology to be examined with specialized instruments. The topographic morphology of the anterior and posterior surfaces of the cornea and the examination data can be used to clarify the curvature of the patient’s cornea, the type of astigmatism, and so on. Normal cornea on the topographic map shows a round shape with a uniform distribution of the surface, if it is oval, the cornea appears to be deformed, indicating that there is astigmatism in the surrounding area. Topography map will have different color expression, and there are specific color specification, according to the color change, can be carried out on the discoloration area, focus on the analysis and examination, improve the diagnostic effect. Professional data such as corneal curvature will be displayed in the examination results, and the doctor will judge according to the daily value corresponding to each parameter, analyze whether it belongs to corneal astigmatism or the corneal surface problems, and diagnose it with the comprehensive results. The normal human cornea is roughly divided into four zones, each zone has its own mechanical function, and the normal cornea is not completely symmetrical. It is recommended that patients with corneal topography abnormalities seek prompt medical attention to evaluate their condition and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
