Right-sided facial paralysis is usually acupuncture on the affected area, i.e., the right side, and can also be paired with contralateral acupoints. Acupuncture must be performed by a professional physician, and should not be self-acupuncture. Facial paralysis is a Western medical concept, but in TCM it is often considered as stomatitis, which is a common clinical condition characterized by distortion of the mouth and eyes, involuntary salivation (drooling), and accompanied by pain behind the ears. Acupuncture and moxibustion are based on localized points and hand-foot Yangming meridian points. Commonly used points include Yangbai, Zyongsiao, Cheek Che, Dicang, Cataract and Hegu. Dicang, belonging to the foot yangming stomach meridian, is located at the outer corner of the mouth on the face, upward corresponding to the pupil, and is commonly used clinically for distortion of the mouth and eyes, involuntary salivation, eyelid trembling, as well as tooth pain, redness and swelling of the cheeks, and so on. Zygomaticos, belonging to the small intestine meridian of the sun of the hand, is located in the depression of the zygomatic bone below the corner of the eye of the face, and is commonly used clinically for treating facial conditions such as crooked mouth and eyes, and tooth pain. If symptoms of facial paralysis occur, you should seek medical treatment and pay attention to wind protection and warmth of the body to avoid aggravation of the condition.
