After Schistosoma haematobium causes liver cirrhosis, it is necessary to remove the worms actively; after the eradication of Schistosoma haematobium, it is also necessary to take symptomatic treatment for liver cirrhosis, such as splenectomy, jugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt and so on; and the general treatment, such as paying attention to rest, strengthening nutrition and so on. Since the liver’s ability to heal itself is extremely poor after entering the stage of cirrhosis, there is almost no medicine that can promote the complete repair of the liver, so it can only be combined with anthelmintic treatment and symptomatic treatment for the complications to alleviate the further progression of cirrhosis. 1. Deworming treatment: broad-spectrum antiparasitic drugs such as praziquantel can be used for internal deworming, and at the same time, according to the number of schistosomes, medication or surgery can be reasonably adopted. 2. Symptomatic treatment: while eradicating schistosomiasis, patients with cirrhosis need to be treated symptomatically for symptoms such as ascites, splenomegaly, portal hypertension and etc. For patients with ascites, diuretics can be used. For patients with ascites, diuretic drugs can be used to reduce the symptoms; for patients with huge spleen, splenectomy or jugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt can be taken to reduce portal hypertension; if there are patients with schistosomiasis-induced hyperthermia, glucocorticoids can be used appropriately under the guidance of doctors. 3. General treatment: patients with liver cirrhosis caused by schistosomiasis should pay attention to rest, eat a light diet and ensure balanced nutrition. Avoid drinking alcohol and other bad behaviors that can increase the burden on the liver. All the above treatments and medications should follow the doctor’s prescription.
