Which children must undergo emergency surgery in the neonatal period?

Diseases such as transposition of the great arteries (D-TGA), complete pulmonary vein ectopic connection (TAPVC), aortic arch anomaly combined with ventricular septal defect (AAA/VSD), and hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) that evolve into irreversible pulmonary vascular obstructive lesions if not completely or partially corrected in the neonatal period; other conditions such as pulmonary atresia/intact ventricular septum (PA/IVS) that do not the presence of right ventricle-dependent coronary circulation require surgery in the neonatal period in order to decompress the right ventricle. Diseases such as atrial septal defect (ASD) and ventricular septal defect (VSD) with left-to-right shunts causing heart failure require surgery in the neonatal period depending on the failure.
