Painful symptoms below the ribs, also known as the rib cage, need to be determined depending on whether the pain is in the front or the back of the body. If the pain is below the rib cage in the front of the chest, it is most likely due to inflammation or injury to the rib cartilage. This location is the location of the rib arch, which is made up of multiple rib cartilages together. Although the rib arch is relatively flexible, excessive violence or sustained force applied to it can lead to localized injury or inflammation. Injury or inflammation of the costal arch can aggravate the pain due to chest movement. If the pain is not aggravated by chest movement, it is important to consider whether the pain is due to a lesion of an organ or structure in the right side of the abdomen that is causing the painful symptoms below the rib cage. When abdominal pain occurs, an ultrasound of the abdomen or even a CT of the abdomen should be examined to rule out disease.
