The diagnostic criteria for carotid plaque is based on the thickness of the carotid intima-media under vascular Doppler ultrasound. If the thickness of the carotid intima-media is more than 1.5 mm, the patient is considered to have carotid plaque.
Carotid plaque is a vascular lesion caused by fat accumulation or combined calcium salt deposition in the carotid artery wall, which can be determined by vascular Doppler ultrasound.
Under normal circumstances, the thickness of the carotid artery intima-media should be less than 1mm; if the thickness is between 1 and 1.5mm, it is carotid artery intima-media thickening; and if the thickness is greater than 1.5mm, it is carotid plaque.
Carotid plaque can lead to carotid artery stenosis, and plaque rupture and dislodgement secondary thrombosis, which can lead to stroke, and the patient can have symptoms such as hemiplegia, hemiplegia, and so on. Therefore, if carotid plaque is found in the examination, please follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
