How do I take acid suppressants and mucosal protectors?

Gastroenterological diseases commonly include gastroesophageal reflux disease, gastritis, peptic ulcer, functional gastrointestinal disease, chronic diarrhea, enteritis and gastrointestinal bleeding. They are commonly treated clinically with acid suppressants, gastric mucosal protectants, and digestive aids. In order to achieve the best therapeutic effect in the process of disease treatment often involves the combined application of a variety of drugs, such as the combination of acid suppressants and gastric mucosal protective agents commonly used in clinical practice, many patients will take these two drugs at the same time, but often can not achieve the expected efficacy, this is why? At present, the acid suppressants commonly used in clinical practice are H2 receptor antagonists and proton pump inhibitors, both of which are used to increase the pH value in the stomach and improve the acid environment in the stomach, and are mostly used in the treatment of acid-related digestive diseases such as gastroesophageal reflux disease and peptic ulcer. In the treatment of such diseases, mucosal protective agents are also commonly used drugs. Among them, bismuth is deposited in the form of bismuth salts in the gastric mucosa, protecting the ulcer surface and acting as an anti-Helicobacter pylori, but this requires the action of gastric acid to be effective. Another mucosal protective agent, aluminum thioglycollate, exerts mucosal protection by forming a complex anion of sucrose sulfate, which also needs to be ionized in an acidic environment in order to be effective. When patients take the two types of drugs orally, the mucosal protective agents bismuth and aluminum thiosulfate will not be effective because of the loss of acidic environment, and the acid suppressant will also be affected by the mucosal protective agent. If the combination of acid suppressants is necessary, it should be taken half an hour before or one hour after the mucosal protective agent to achieve the best effect.
